Almost Archaic
2009 - 2012
Using narratives of the road as a segue, this body of photographs chronicles biannual trips to visit my home in Oklahoma and small towns in North Texas. When exploring communities and bucolic scenes I respond to environments that reveal the impermanence of man-made relics. Through the topography, confined interiors, as well as its residents, I invited the viewer to celebrate the quotidian. The subject matter is likely to be perceived as mundane, yet an urgency to reflect on those once occupying these territories is immediate. There is an embodiment of the eerie whisper of the Great Plains. As a whole the images suggest that people and place are symbiotic systems.
